What is SEM?

SEM is paid Search Engine Marketing, a strategy to increase search visibility via ads on search engines. Paid search ads can be found at the top and sometimes the bottom of Google and Bing search pages. They are marked with the term Advert or Ad and usually occupy prime real estate on a search page.

SEM uses keywords, or more importantly key phrases, to target the audience. For example if you were searching for work as a website developer you might use key words such as Website Developer or Website Designer as phrases to ensure increased targeting.

The Benefit of SEM is that it offers advertisers the opportunity to put their ads in front of motivated customers who are ready to buy at the precise moment they’re ready to purchase. It is not paying for an advert in the paper that many will scan and not really ‘see’. No other form of advertising is as effective or provides the same results.
